Salad Bowl and Scale

This was a 60th birthday cake for someone who doesn't really eat cake! This is a replica of the scale she uses to weigh out all of her food. She always eats just 8 ounces of salad.

The board was covered in marbled fondant and splattered to look like a granite counter top. The scale is all cake. The salad bowl is half styrofoam and half real cake. Given the shape of the salad bowl I was afraid it would be too top heavy so I decided to use a 1/2 ball of styrofoam for the bottom of the bowl. There is a center PVC pipe attached to the board and running through all the cakes for added support. The salad bowl was airbrushed and painted to look like wood. All the veggies were modeled out to gumpaste.
